2015 Marqués de Riscal XR Reserva

2015 Marqués de Riscal XR Reserva. Today we are travelling to the Rioja town of Elciego to bring you this wine, Marqués de Riscal XR Reserva 2015, produced by Bodegas de los Herederos del Marques de Riscal under the protection of the Rioja D.O.Ca. Rioja.

This wine is made from a blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano, aged in American oak barrels for 24 months and one year in the bottle. It leaves us with 14% vol.

A winemaker’s wine, to which this XR belongs. In the style of the Jerez foremen, the winemaker marked some of his barrels with a chalk with the word XR when he found some special characteristics. This XR was never marketed, but it was always a reference for the cellar master in a custom that lasted almost a century, from 1869 to 1964.

In view it is a wine that leaves us a cherry colour quite covered, quite high layer, bright and clean in still glass.

A nose that leaves us with a fairly high intensity, with a clear presence of ripe black fruit, with a slight appearance of red fruit, with hints of ageing when the glass is aired, appearing balsamic touches, toasted wood, spicy notes, leather, …, complex and fairly balanced.

Slightly dry attack on the palate, with a good structure, a tasty passage, good volume on the palate, quite round and elegant tannins. Very good persistence and a long finish.

A wine that deserves an Excellent rating after tasting.
