Pieropan Soave Classico DOC 2019

Pieropan Soave Classico DOC 2019 is a wine produced by the Pieropan winery which, for more than a century, has been the family that revolutionised winemaking in Soave, becoming one of the most respected wine families in the whole of Italy.

Pieropan was the first estate to produce single-vineyard Soave and is one of the most famous names in the region. It is an organic wine, made from hillside vines and with a brief ageing on lees to add texture.

The Zone: Soave Classico

Pieropan’s vineyards, located in the Soave Classico zone, are planted exclusively with indigenous varieties, on volcanic or calcareous soils at between 100 and 300 metres above sea level.

The harvest is carried out by hand, beginning in mid-September for the Trebbiano di Soave and in October for the Garganega. The grapes are destemmed and crushed in a protected environment, and the free-run must ferments at low temperatures — between 14 and 18°C — in glass-lined cement tanks, where the wine remains on its fine lees before bottling.

The Grapes

This Soave Classico is made from the traditional varieties Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, grown in the family’s vineyards within the Soave Classico zone, with vines ranging from 6 to 60 years of age.

Tasting Notes — 2019 Vintage

Appearance: Bright straw yellow colour with greenish reflections.

Nose: The delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossom and marzipan. Aromas of fresh pear, lemon curd, white pepper and wet stone also emerge, with touches of wild herbs.

Palate: Good depth of fruit on the palate, well balanced by a lively, zesty acidity that enhances its long development. Medium-bodied with a vibrant freshness and saline mineral notes on the finish.
