Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico Riserva 2020
This wine comes from Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southern part of Chianti Classico, widely regarded as the warmer and more structured side of the appellation.
The estate, Tenuta di Arceno, is located next to the medieval village of San Gusmè and has a long winemaking history, with Etruscan influences and later development under noble Sienese families.
Today it belongs to Jackson Family Wines and follows a philosophy that blends Tuscan tradition with a modern, parcel-driven “micro-cru” approach.
Winemaking
The blend is composed of approximately 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 10–12 months in French oak barrels.
It presents itself as a modern Chianti, where Sangiovese remains the dominant voice, while the small international contribution adds structure and depth.
The 2020 Riserva vintage perfectly reflects the contemporary style of Chianti Classico, balancing tradition (acidity, freshness) with modernity (riper fruit, polished tannins).
The 2020 vintage was particularly well-balanced, showing excellent ripening and vibrant acidity.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A deep, intense ruby red color, with high concentration, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose
Highly expressive and complex, showing:
- Red and black fruits (cherry, plum, raspberry)
- Floral hints (violet)
- Spicy notes, tobacco, cedar, and a subtle mineral touch
A classic Chianti aromatic profile, but with greater depth than usual.
Palate
Dry and structured on entry, with firm yet polished tannins. It shows lively acidity and a medium-bodied structure. The finish is long, with lingering notes of fruit, spice, and a subtle earthy nuance.
It has good aging potential (10–15 years).
Overall, it shows a typical duality: elegant, yet powerful.
