Pazo do Camiño, Liqueur Wine
Pazo do Camiño by Bodegas Lodeiros is a liqueur wine rooted in the Galician tradition of sweet mistela-style wines. In other words, it is a fortified wine (wine alcohol is added) to preserve the natural sugars and enhance its aromatic profile. It is part of the winery’s range, where family tradition (since 1910) is combined with the production of wines, vermouths, and Galician spirits.
It is made by adding alcohol to grape must, stopping fermentation and retaining natural sugars, resulting in a wine with a sweet, aromatic profile and a strong influence of fruit.
This type of wine does not aim for the crisp acidity of an Albariño, but rather for intensity, sweetness, and texture.
Tasting Notes – Pazo do Camiño
Appearance
Bright amber or deep golden color, with noticeable density in the glass (pronounced legs), indicating its sugar and alcohol content.
Nose
Highly expressive and indulgent, showing ripe fruit (peach in syrup, raisins), along with notes of honey and caramel, and hints of candied citrus.
This is a typical aromatic profile of sweet fortified wines, with a warm and enveloping character.
Palate
This is where the wine truly defines itself:
A sweet and silky entry, followed by a rich, almost liqueur-like texture. There is a very good balance between sweetness and slight acidity (key to avoiding heaviness), and a long finish with notes of ripe fruit and toasted sugar.
Overall impression:
A generous, approachable wine, designed more for slow enjoyment than for pairing with complex dishes.
Food Pairing
This wine works especially well with:
- Traditional desserts (Tarta de Santiago, filloas, rice pudding)
- Blue or aged cheeses (sweet–savory contrast)
- Nuts and pastries
- Even on its own, as an after-dinner wine
Pazo do Camiño does not compete with complex sweet wines such as Sauternes or Tokaji, but instead plays in a different league, where Galician tradition, accessibility, and immediate enjoyment take center stage.
You decide…
A wine for those who enjoy natural sweetness and pure Galician tradition; perfect to end a meal at a relaxed pace.
Approximate price:
Between €8 and €12 (50 cl bottle).
Where to buy:
In specialized wine shops, local wine stores, and directly through the Bodegas Lodeiros website.
Why it stands out:
Because it combines the essence of traditional Galician mistela with a very accessible aromatic profile: sweet, intense, and designed for uncomplicated enjoyment, standing apart from more technical or complex sweet wines.
