Kvaszinger Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos

The Kvaszinger Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is one of the most iconic sweet wines from Hungary’s legendary Tokaj region, produced by the family-owned winery Kvaszinger Pincészet.

Winery and region

  • Producer: Kvaszinger Pincészet
  • Location: Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region, northeastern Hungary
  • Country: Hungary

Tokaj is one of the world’s most historic wine regions, famous for its botrytised (“noble rot”) sweet wines, where grapes are affected by Botrytis cinerea, concentrating sugar, acidity, and aroma. This creates wines with extraordinary balance between sweetness and freshness.

The 6 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú is the highest traditional sweetness level in the classification system.

Key production steps include:

  • Hand-harvested botrytised Furmint grapes
  • Grapes are selected berry by berry (Aszú berries)
  • Maceration of dried berries in base wine for several days
  • Fermentation followed by long ageing in Hungarian oak barrels (approx. 2 years)
  • Further bottle ageing before release

The result is a wine with extremely high concentration of sugar but also very high acidity, which keeps it balanced and not cloying.
