Domaine du Petit Clocher Anjou 2023 Cabernet Franc, a Loire wine

The Domaine du Petit Clocher Anjou 2023 Cabernet Franc (Famille Denis) is a light, juicy red with excellent drinkability—very much in the classic Loire style.

It comes from the AOC Anjou in the Loire Valley (France), a region known for fresh, lightly structured reds. The main grape variety is Cabernet Franc, almost monovarietal.

Winemaking involves a short maceration (4–6 days) and fermentation in stainless steel, with little to no oak influence. This defines a style that highlights clean fruit, soft tannins, and avoids heaviness or dominant wood notes.

Tasting note

Visually, in the glass it shows a bright ruby red color with violet reflections and a medium-low intensity.

On the nose, it is very direct and expressive, with fresh red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), hints of blackcurrant, and subtle touches of licorice and herbaceous notes typical of Cabernet Franc.

On the palate, it offers a soft, juicy attack, with a light to medium body, very fine and polished tannins, and a fresh finish with a slight smoky/mineral touch.

Overall, it feels like a fluid, charming, easy-drinking wine, with that elegant vegetal edge characteristic of the Loire.

To consider

Approximate price: Between €6.5 and €9 in Europe, offering very good value for money.

Where to buy: Commonly found in European online shops and wine stores specializing in Loire wines. In Spain, it is not uncommon to see it in shops focused on French wines and distributors of accessible “artisan-style” wines.

Why is it different and interesting? This is a “light” Cabernet Franc (not structured), very different from Bordeaux styles: fresher, less tannic, and more fruit-driven. A true “glou-glou” wine—made for easy drinking rather than prolonged analysis. A perfect red for everyday enjoyment.
