Cuñas Davia 2024, a journey through Ribeiro

Cuñas Davia 2024, a journey through Ribeiro

Today we present this tasting of the Cuñas Davia 2024, produced by Adegas Valdavia, a very small winery located in the Avia Valley (Ribeiro). It is a modern-style white wine, but with a traditional Galician foundation, aged on lees which gives it volume and complexity.

A blend featuring native Galician grape varieties such as Treixadura (the main base), Albariño, Godello, and Caiño Blanco / Loureira (depending on the vineyard plot and vintage).

Visually, in the glass it shows a bright straw-yellow colour, clean, with slightly greenish reflections.

On the nose, it is very expressive and complex, with a strong presence of white fruit (apple, pear, peach), citrus notes (grapefruit, orange peel), accompanied by floral and herbal hints (white flowers, fennel, wild herbs), and a slightly mineral and lees-derived background.

It is a white wine with more depth than a basic Ribeiro.

On the palate, it has a fresh and elegant attack, with a rounded mid-palate and a certain creaminess (from the lees), lively but well-integrated acidity, and a long, slightly bitter, very gastronomic finish.

Overall, this is a balanced white wine, serious yet easy to drink, with strong Atlantic identity.

To decide

Approximate price: between €15 and €20 depending on the retailer.

Where to buy it: in specialised online wine shops, physical wine stores in Galicia and northern Spain, as well as selected gourmet shops and restaurants with strong Galician wine lists.

Why it is worth trying: it represents a mid-to-high level Ribeiro white, not a simple entry-level wine, with a very complete profile: fruit + citrus + herbs + minerality. Excellent work with lees, which adds texture and differentiates it from more linear white wines. It is a very Atlantic wine, but with more complexity than many young Rías Baixas wines.
