Bodegas Baigorri Launches Its Small Productions Collection

Between the gentle slopes of the Sierra de Toloño and the historic vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas Baigorri has taken another step forward in its commitment to terroir-driven wines with the launch of its new Small Productions Collection, a selection bringing together three labels deeply connected to the landscape and wine identity of the region: Finca Las Navas, Finca La Quintanilla, and Finca La Canoca.

More than just a wine box, this collection represents a contemporary vision of Rioja Alavesa at its purest: singular vineyards, limited production, meticulous viticulture, and winemaking focused on expressing the personality of each parcel with maximum precision.

Located in Samaniego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Baigorri has become one of the most recognizable wineries in the appellation thanks to its striking architecture integrated into the landscape and its gravity-flow winemaking concept, designed to avoid aggressive pumping and preserve the integrity of the grapes.

Rioja Alavesa: Altitude, Limestone, and Elegance

To speak about Rioja Alavesa is to speak about one of Spain’s most fascinating wine regions. Sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria, its vineyards benefit from a privileged microclimate where Atlantic and Mediterranean influences meet. Clay-limestone soils, elevated vineyards, and strong temperature variations help produce wines with freshness, tension, and remarkable aging potential.

It is precisely within this environment that Baigorri cultivates some of its most exceptional vineyards, now brought together in this limited-edition collection.

Finca Las Navas: The Pure Expression of Single-Vineyard Tempranillo

Baigorri Finca Las Navas Tempranillo comes from a vineyard of nearly four hectares located next to the winery itself in Samaniego, planted on clay-limestone soils with a north-south orientation.

The vineyard is farmed under sustainable principles, while the wine is crafted artisanally in 5,000-liter French oak vats using intracellular maceration and gravity-fed extraction methods. Every detail is designed to preserve the delicacy of the fruit and the authentic expression of the vineyard.

In the glass, it reveals itself as an elegant and precise Tempranillo, with aromas of fresh red fruit, aromatic herbs, licorice, and subtle smoky hints. On the palate, it stands out for its balance and refined texture, combining freshness with depth.

It is perhaps the wine that best embodies Baigorri’s philosophy: technology serving the vineyard, with minimal intervention allowing the terroir to speak for itself.

Finca La Quintanilla: A Singular Vineyard Built for Aging

The crown jewel of the collection is likely Baigorri Finca La Quintanilla, a wine sourced from an officially recognized “Viñedo Singular,” a category reserved for exceptional vineyard sites within the DOCa Rioja.

The vineyard, isolated and surrounded by aromatic vegetation, delivers very low yields — barely 5,000 kilograms per hectare — and a personality shaped by altitude and the limestone soils of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.

A 24-month aging period in new French oak barrels adds complexity and structure without overshadowing the identity of the Tempranillo grape. The result is a fine, profound, and fresh wine with notes of wild berries, creamy nuances, and a profile clearly designed for long-term aging.

Here, Baigorri presents a more serious and age-worthy expression of Rioja Alavesa, capable of competing with the world’s great single-vineyard wines.

Finca La Canoca: The Silence of the Sierra de Toloño

The third wine in the collection, Baigorri Finca La Canoca, may well be the most emotional of them all. It comes from a vineyard located more than 640 meters above sea level on the foothills of the Sierra de Toloño, near the hamlet of Peciña.

This is a remote and difficult-to-access site where time seems to move more slowly. The vines, planted in 1960, produce a Tempranillo of enormous personality, crafted with indigenous yeasts and a highly artisanal philosophy. Only a few thousand bottles are produced each vintage.

On the nose, it offers ripe fruit, spices, and mineral nuances, while the palate impresses with freshness, silky texture, and elegance shaped by altitude. It is a wine that truly conveys its landscape: limestone rock, cool mountain winds, and slow ripening fruit.

Much More Than a Wine Collection

The Small Productions Collection is not only aimed at collectors or advanced wine enthusiasts. It also works as a true sensory journey through different landscapes of Rioja Alavesa.

Each wine interprets a specific vineyard and demonstrates how the concept of “estate wine” has gained importance in Rioja over recent years. Rather than relying on traditional regional blends, Baigorri focuses here on micro-vinifications that highlight origin, altitude, and vineyard character.

The collection also perfectly reflects the growing international trend toward more precise, fresher wines deeply connected to their terroir.

Architecture, Innovation, and Landscape

Part of Baigorri’s appeal also lies in its spectacular winery, designed by architect Iñaki Aspiazu. From the outside, visitors see little more than a large glass cube integrated into the landscape, but underground lies an impressive vertical winery entirely conceived around gravity-flow winemaking.

This combination of contemporary design, technical innovation, and respect for tradition has turned Baigorri into one of the essential wine tourism destinations in Rioja Alavesa.

A Collection That Defines the New Luxury in Wine

At a time when luxury is no longer measured solely by exclusivity but also by authenticity, Baigorri’s collection perfectly captures the new language of premium wine: limited vineyards, artisanal production, sustainability, and emotional connection to the landscape.

Three wines, three vineyards, and one shared vision: proving that Rioja Alavesa still has countless stories to tell through its small yet extraordinary vineyards.
