The St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Noir Rosé Alto Adige DOC

The St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Noir Rosé Alto Adige DOC is one of those Italian alpine rosés that perfectly combine Central European elegance, technical precision, and remarkable drinkability.

It comes from Alto Adige, one of the regions where Pinot Noir finds an ideal cool climate to express delicacy and aromatic tension.

The winery produces this rosé using the saignée method, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity and freshness. The vineyards are located around Appiano, on morainic and calcareous gravel soils that bring minerality and vibrancy to the wine.

Tasting Notes

Visually, the wine displays a pale salmon pink color, extremely bright and clean, with subtle coppery reflections. It has a very “Provence-style” appearance, though with a more vibrant alpine personality.

The nose is fine and fresh, dominated by small red fruits such as fresh raspberry, wild strawberry, and crunchy red cherry, accompanied by delicate floral hints, rose petal notes, and a lightly mineral background. In some vintages, subtle nuances of acacia honey and an elegant herbal touch also emerge.

On the palate, it opens with a very fresh and juicy attack, supported by lively yet perfectly integrated acidity. The wine shows a silky texture, medium-light body, and a highly gastronomic profile. The red fruit returns with clarity and precision, leading into a persistent, dry, and refreshing finish.

Final Thoughts

This is a rosé quite different from the riper or sweeter Mediterranean rosé style. Here, the cool-climate character dominates, bringing greater verticality, less alcoholic sensation, and a more food-friendly profile.

At times, it recalls certain rosés from Austrian Tyrol or even some Pinot Noir rosés from cooler French regions.

Why is it interesting? Because this is a very well-crafted, modern, and refined rosé, probably one of the Italian rosés with the best quality-price ratio within the accessible premium segment.
