Senderos de Ukan 2022 (Magnum 1.5 L format) is a modern Rioja—serious yet approachable—with a very appealing balance between quality and price. And note: the Magnum format isn’t just larger; it also ages more gracefully.
It comes from Rioja Alavesa and is produced by Ukan Winery. A single-varietal Tempranillo, sourced from selected vineyard plots in Laguardia, Elciego, Lapuebla, and Elvillar, with vines averaging 40 to 50 years of age. The winemaking process includes fermentation in concrete (to preserve fruit purity) and aging for 11 to 12 months in French oak.
The aim is to craft a wine with minimal intervention, expressing the vineyard itself, resulting in a contemporary Rioja with less oak influence, more fruit, and greater freshness.
Tasting note
On the eye, it shows a bright cherry-red color with violet hues at the rim.
The nose is very expressive and clean, with plenty of red and black fruit (cherry, blackberry, plum), alongside floral notes (violet) and hints of gentle spices and wild herbs.
On the palate, it has a juicy, fresh entry, medium body, and excellent balance. The tannins are fine and polished, leading to a subtly spiced finish with good acidity. Overall, it feels elegant, fluid, and highly drinkable—structured yet never heavy.
