Minkov Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon

Minkov Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon red wine, produced by the Minkov Brothers winery in the Thracian Valley region of Bulgaria, with grapes sourced from their own vineyards in the Karnobat area. A dry wine, aged for 12 months in new and used French oak barrels, with a cellaring potential of over five years. Awarded a silver medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2022.

Visual phase Deep purple in colour, full-bodied, bright and clean, with well-defined violet reflections that reveal the youth of the vintage.

Nose Intense and rich on the nose, with hints of dark fruits, chocolate and toasted notes, along with caramel, earthy tones and spices. Complex aromas of dark forest fruits, chocolate, mint and gentle vanilla. An elegant aromatic profile in which fruit and oak are perfectly integrated.

Palate Dense and rounded on the palate, with a sense of juiciness, gentle freshness and silky tannins, leading to a long finish dominated by aromas of chocolate and ripe red fruits. Full-bodied yet refined and elegant, dry, with high acidity and perfectly ripe tannins. Flavour intensity is high, with dark fruits at the core beautifully complemented by quality oak.

Conclusion A classically styled and well-crafted Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon that surprises with its elegance and balance for its price point. The French oak ageing adds complexity without masking the fruit, and the ripe tannins make it a very pleasurable drink today, with room to continue evolving in bottle. It pairs particularly well with braised red meats, game, wine-based sauces and aged cheeses. A very interesting proposition from the Thracian Valley, deserving a rating of Very Good, with a score of 88–90 points.
