The wine from Bodega SOMMOS Garnacha has earned two major distinctions that endorse the quality, freshness, and personality of this old-vine Garnacha from Murero, within the Calatayud PDO.
It is one of the winery’s most award-winning wines, continuing to expand its list of accolades year after year.
Alquez 2022 has once again established itself as the flagship wine of SOMMOS Garnacha after being awarded a Gold Medal at the 2026 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and receiving 92 points in the 2027 Peñín Guide, two of the most prestigious recognitions in the international and Spanish wine industries, respectively. These awards highlight the meticulous work carried out both in the vineyard and the winery, as well as SOMMOS’ ongoing commitment to crafting wines that authentically reflect the character of Garnacha and the uniqueness of their origin.
Produced from old-vine vineyards located at more than 800 metres above sea level within the Calatayud PDO, Alquez originates in a landscape defined by steep slopes and slate, schist, and clay soils. These conditions, combined with sustainable viticulture and a minimal-intervention winemaking approach, result in a pure and elegant expression of Garnacha. Alquez 2022 stands out for its freshness, black fruit aromas, and vibrant acidity, characteristics that provide balance, depth, and excellent ageing potential. This Garnacha embraces subtlety and tension, moving away from more powerful interpretations to reveal a refined and highly distinctive personality.

These achievements strengthen the winery’s commitment to producing high-quality wines from old vineyards, capable of conveying the personality of the land and the potential of one of Spain’s most emblematic grape varieties.
