Wine Tourism in France: Visit to Château Bardins
A visit to Château Bardins, a château located in Cadaujac, whose wines are classified under the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation in the Bordeaux region. It is one of those hidden gems that can be discovered on a wine tourism route through this essential French wine area without having to visit the Grand Cru Classé estates.
References to this estate date back to 1350, when the Bardins (or Bardey) mill was first mentioned along the course of the Eau Blanche river flowing beneath the fields. The vineyard, ideally situated on the first slopes of Bouscaut in Cadaujac, is very old and was already marked on the map of Pierre de Belleyme, the royal geographer and engineer under King Louis XV.

Camille de Sigoyer, born in 1870 on Réunion Island, settled in Bordeaux and married Marie Vincent, the owner of Château Bardins. Their son Christian and grandson Yves later took over the property and the winery. Today, their great-grandchildren—Stella, Christol, and Edith—work to maintain the estate’s integrity.
Significant renovations and improvements are being carried out to preserve this family treasure. Stella focuses on grape cultivation and winemaking, while Christol, now based on Réunion Island, manages the marketing of Château Bardins wines.
Throughout the year, numerous cultural events are hosted at Bardins, providing excellent opportunities to discover—or rediscover—the area, combining wine with local culture and experiences.

Planted on a gravel crest with a clay-limestone base, the vineyard naturally drains towards the Eau Blanche stream. Over the past century, tradition has been combined with modernity. Respect for the terroir and nature lies at the heart of the estate’s philosophy.
The 24-hectare property includes 9.5 small vineyard plots bordered by hedges. Annual production is approximately 380 hectolitres of red wine and 10 hectolitres of white wine.
With an average vineyard age of 20 years, the red varietals consist of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Cabernet Franc. As for the whites, 33% Sauvignon, 33% Sémillon, and 33% Muscadelle.

Tasting their red wines reveals wines full of personality and character, and above all, a true expression of the terroir in every sense.
