Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Cuvée Margot 2016

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]livier Leflaive Bourgogne Cuvée Margot 2016 is a red wine, a single-varietal Pinot Noir produced in France, specifically under the AOC Bourgogne designation. Not long ago we brought you a tasting of some of their wines.

A very easy-drinking Bourgogne, smooth yet elegant, with abundant fruit, complemented by the subtle touch of ageing — having spent a couple of years in bottle — which gives it a truly interesting overall character on tasting.

In the visual phase of the tasting, it presents a cherry red colour of moderate intensity, with a medium body that still reveals faint violet reflections when swirled. Bright and clean.

The nose shows medium intensity, with generous fruit, dominated by red berries — raspberries, cherries and the like — along with wild forest fruits, and spiced notes from the ageing process: gentle toasted hints, light touches of cocoa, vanilla, coffee, a hint of liquorice, tobacco and more. Well balanced.

The palate is truly inviting on entry — fresh, smooth, slightly dry at first though this quickly softens — with very good acidity, elegant mid-palate and excellent structure. Medium-bodied in a way that invites another glass. Fruit and oak ageing work hand in hand, delivering a notably vibrant passage across the palate. Very good persistence and a medium finish with an earthy, mineral touch.

A very juicy, highly drinkable wine that showcases the profile of Bourgogne wines beautifully — always appealing, at any time of year without a doubt, crafted from the Pinot Noir so characteristic of the region and with an unmistakable style.

After tasting, this wine fully deserves a rating of Excellent, achieving a score of 92 points.
