Fattoria del Cerro Rosso di Montepulciano DOC

Fattoria del Cerro, located in Acquaviva di Montepulciano, produces this wine, Fattoria del Cerro Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2015. It has 600 hectares of land of which 181 are vineyards, more than half of them within the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano zone, making it the largest privately owned estate in the denomination.

It produces wines of great quality, structure and finesse.

The main grape variety of the Montepulciano area is Sangiovese, which in this territory goes by the local name of Prugnolo Gentile. The Rosso di Montepulciano from Fattoria del Cerro is produced with Prugnolo Gentile but with 10% Syrah.

Rosso di Montepulciano is a younger, everyday wine of great balance and elegance, with evident notes of red fruit and violet, and highly versatile as a companion to food. It is the younger sibling of Vino Nobile, which ages for 18 months in barriques and Slavonian oak casks.

The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the winery for fermentation with maceration in stainless steel tanks for 8–10 days at controlled temperature (24–26°C), with daily pump-overs to ensure correct extraction of colour and polyphenols. The wine is then separated from the skins and placed in large Slavonian oak casks, where it remains for 3 months until blending and bottling.
