Oenological jewels unique singular and unknown: Georgian wines
Georgian wines are unique but little-known oenological wonders in the very center of the Caucasus
They are one of the great unknowns and, at the same time, one of the great and wonderful ‘oenological jewels’ as stated in the title I have chosen for this article.
Forgotten Georgian lands, not just their wines.
To begin with and as an anecdote, I would like to tell you that it is considered an area or one of the first territories conquered and populated naturally, where Vitis Vinifera was implanted, cared for and pampered, that is, the plant we know. today. We know it as a vine, and from whose fruits, after a fermentation process, we obtain that precious alcoholic liquid that we love so much called wine.
Talking about Georgian wines is downright simple. And since it is not bravado at all (quite the opposite), it is relatively simple, since everything is summed up in one word ESSENCE.
Essence in terms of territory, essence in terms of wine tradition, essence in terms of the different and varied types of soil that such a small country has, essence in terms of the great quantity and variety of its wines, essence in terms of multiple varieties . . both reds and whites, essence in terms of ancestral natural yeasts, essence in terms of the indigenous oenological knowledge of winegrowers and winemakers for more than 8,000 years, essence in terms of their particular and unique way of transforming the vine into wine.
ESSENCE
Essence regarding the famous clay Qvebri, large amphorae semi or completely buried in the ground, with the intention that during fermentation and storage, a constant natural temperature can be achieved. Essence in terms of ancestral transformation and fermentation processes, almost family and secrets, which are transmitted from parents to children for centuries like a precious treasure. All this in a complex that has been recognized by UNESCO as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
As you can see, talking about Georgian wines is downright simple. Server invites you to accompany him on a journey through this magnificent, peculiar and wonderful region. I promise you, within my possibilities, that we are going to discover a wonderful treasure. Let’s discover the uniqueness of these wines that make them so special and unique as well as unknown. Will you accompany me?
Geography in Georgian wines At that crossroads already described between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, in that land of ancient traditions dating back millennia, lie hidden liquid treasures that the Western palate has barely explored.
GEOGRAFY IN GEORGIAN WINNES
At that crossroads already described between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, in that land of ancient traditions dating back millennia, lie hidden liquid treasures that the Western palate has barely explored.
I am talking about Georgian wines, true liquid jewels that awaken our senses and transport us to a world where time surrenders to the magic of the terroir and ancestral mastery. In Georgia, the vine is intertwined with the history, culture and soul of its people. There wine is much more than a simple drink: it is an expression of hospitality, friendship and celebration. The vineyards spread like a green blanket between the fertile lands of Kakheti, Imeriti, Martí and other regions blessed by Mother Nature. Native grape varieties are grown on this land, guardians of a unique and captivating wine heritage.
The majestic Seperavi, with its skin that hides elegance in each bunch. The noble Rkatsiteli, with its aromatic neatness and captivating freshness, undoubtedly caresses the finest of palates. And how can we forget the charming Kakhuri Mtsvane, whose floral and citrus nuances will wrap you in an aromatic hug that you will not easily forget.
I already told you about Quebri, the same one where orange wines find their origin. I may seem a bit exaggerated, but I promise you that I am not at all, when I say that Georgian wines continue to be a magical style, which challenges convictions and opens new doors to sensory delight.
When immersed in a Georgian wine, one encounters a rainbow of flavors and a symphony of textures with each unparalleled sip, each one revealing, from the first to the last, a story in itself. Mysterious old ones that are fresh and vibrant at the same time, all of them (especially the white ones) with their well-balanced acidity. They awaken the senses, and make us long, sitting with a good glass of wine, to see the sun slowly appearing in the distance again and begin to cover the vineyards with its first warm rays.
