Iconic Women take center stage as Vinitaly celebrates with bubbles
- Italy’s leading female wine producers will gather for a special tasting event as Vinitaly celebrates Iconic Women in Italian ‘Bollicine”. With a particular focus on sparkling wine, six inspiring women will present their wines to a specially invited audience at an exclusive event to be held at Vinitaly on Tuesday 4 April 2023.
Following the success of «Iconic Women in Italian Wine», held during the last edition of Vinitaly, the initiative is repeated this year with a particular focus on women involved in the production of sparkling wine. Moderating the panel of producers, who will be on hand to present their sparkling or spumante wines and tell their own personal stories, will be Alison Napjus, an influential wine critic and journalist, and a leading figure at the US magazine Wine Spectator. The specially invited audience brings together a group of 60 influential members of the media, trade and the global wine sector to celebrate the strengths, hopes and aspirations for the future that women in wine bring to the table.
According to research by the Observatory of Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) and Ismea, Italian sparkling wine reached a production record of 970 million bottles in 2022, worth an estimated 2.85 billion euros. Driving this growth in demand for Italian bubbles are the key markets of the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, but also established and emerging markets like Canada, Sweden, Japan, Eastern Europe and France, which are increasingly attracted to Italian bubbles.
Stevie Kim, Managing Director of Vinitaly International, said: “Once again we are deeply honored to be bringing together such an inspiring group of female wine producers. Each of these iconic women has an amazing story to tell and we are delighted to be providing them with a platform to do so.”
She continued: “In recent years Italian sparkling wines have enjoyed phenomenal growth, and it’s right that we celebrate the role of women in making that possible, both as consumers and producers. Sparkling wine is particularly popular amongst female and young drinkers, and we know they’ll find the stories of our iconic women in wine particularly inspiring.”
