Gonzalo de Berceo Tempranillo Blanco Barrica (CVC), Bodegas Manzanos Haro
Gonzalo de Berceo Tempranillo Blanco Barrica CVC (a blend of several harvests), a wine produced by Bodegas Manzanos Haro (Bodegas Berceo) close to where the Tempranillo Blanco appeared. A really interesting wine not only because of the use of this unusual varietal, but also because of the aging and vinification style with which it is made. This wine is made under the regulation of DOCa Rioja.
This is a wine that undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks and is subsequently aged in oak barrels (70% French barrels and 30% new American barrels and second use) between 6 and 8 months.
In view, it is a wine that, in a still glass, leaves us with a citrus yellow color, lemony, very bright and clean, with good tears that run through the entire glass and flow slowly. Some steely reflections in motion. A middle layer.
The nose, for those who do not know Tempranillo Blanco, is very varietal, in the sense of the very frank presence of fruit, with hints of white fruit, such as pears or apples, aromas of stone fruit, peaches, slight floral contributions that they intensify after aerating the glass, also appearing slight herbaceous contributions, some balsamic contribution, soft spicy touches, toasted, with a soft earthy-mineral background. Complex and balanced.
In the mouth, despite being a wine aged in barrels, it presents itself with a fresh attack, with good acidity, with lots of fruit, with a contribution of ripe fruit from its aging in barrels, a very good structure that allows it to have a good bottle growth. Balanced on the palate, tasty, slightly unctuous, with good volume on the palate. A fairly long finish with very good persistence.
A wine that is really different from other white wines that are made in our country with other more common white varietals, which seems to me to be a very interesting wine to be tasted and discover the contributions of this varietal. After its tasting, this Gonzalo de Berceo Tempranillo Blanco Barrica deserves the rating of Very Good, reaching a score of 91+ points.
