2017 La Motte Wine Estate Platinum Collection Merlot is a wine made in South Africa, in the area of Franschhoek, Coastal Region, Western Cape by La Motte Wine Estate.

A wine that in its tasting is shown as a powerful wine, full-bodied, with tannins present but already well worked by his time in bottle, with an initially dry profile and with a very good acidity that helps to leave a good structure that gives it capacity for aging.

An intense ruby color in a still glass, with garnet reflections. Bright and clean, with a fairly high layer.

On the nose, with very good intensity, there are initially hints of red fruit, with a profile of maturity, such as red currants, cherries, soft touches of black fruit, such as plums, cassis aromas appear, with a contribution of barrel aging that appears after aerating the glass with hints of oak, toast, bitter chocolate, light spices.

In the mouth it presents an attack of character, with good acidity, good structure, a tasty passage, with volume, ripe fruit, spicy touches from the barrel, very tasty on the palate, with good volume. Very good persistence and quite long finish.

Good Merlot that shows the profiles that this grape can leave us in the wines made in South Africa. It seems to me a very good wine for certain pairings and weighty dishes.
