2012 Gitton Père et Fils Sancerre Xelis

Today we move to France, more specifically to the Loire Valley, in the municipality of Sancerre, to present this brutal wine, 2012 Gitton Père et Fils Sancerre Xelis.

A wine that is made as a single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, aged in new French oak barrels of 600l for 10 months, with rest on its lees.

It is a small production wine and is the result of the selection of the best vintages of the Silex wine, also from Sancerre, produced by this winery. In fact, this vintage has only 3,950 bottles produced.

It has been in bottle for some time now, which means that it has lost some freshness but, in exchange, it has achieved greater intensity on the nose and depth on the palate during tasting.

In the glass it is a wine that leaves us with a medium intensity yellow color, slightly dark due to the time it has been in the bottle. Clean, steely reflections.

Nose with hints of quince, elderflower, chamomile, ripe fruit, dried herbs. Very intense, complex nose with a touch of minerality.

Full-bodied attack, with great acidity on the palate. The contributions of the aging appear very clear, with toasty, balsamic, yeasty touches from the lees, along with ripe fruit. Very good persistence and a really long finish. The palate is full-bodied, unctuous and oily.

A wine that after tasting deserves the rating of Excellent. It is already in its fullness but it is very worthwhile to taste it in a quiet way.
